Moric Wines at Twelve
In Case You Missed It: Moric Wine Dinner
Last night’s wine dinner at Twelve was a standout, Chef Hannah Ryder curated a menu that featured Weingut Moric, the Austrian winery founded by Roland Velich. Known for his work with Blaufränkisch, Velich produces wines that are both expressive and deeply terroir-driven, with styles ranging from bright and lifted to structured and age-worthy. The Lutzmannsburg in particular showed remarkable depth, standing comfortably alongside some of the great wines of the world.
A limited number of bottles are still available, with some secured in extremely small quantities from across the country. Requests will be fulfilled in the order received, and orders must be placed by Wednesday, April 15.

Pre Purchase
MORIC "SUPER NATURAL HAUSMARKE" Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay 2023 | $45
Dominated by Grüner Veltliner with Chardonnay to create a balanced wine with notes of fresh citrus, green apple, pear, and fennel, with a savory, chalky finish. A kiss of just 2% Riesling provides vibrant acidity and a crowd-pleasing white wine with endless pairing options.
MORIC "SANKT GEORGEN" Grüner Veltliner 2023 | $120
The original Gruner Veltliner, this is a premium single vineyard site for structured Grüner Veltliner that still showcases full bodied laced with racy minerality. This was a stunning pairing alongside the dinners Cured Sea Trout with cucumber and dill. This was the showstopper in the white category and is in limited supply.
"HAUSMARKE ROT SOLERA" Blaufränkisch Blend 2022 | $30
Summer red season is here and the Rot Solera (“Red Blend”) was a popular pick. This is for the Beaujolais lovers with Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Rotburger (Zweigelt) comprising the blend making for a fresh, fruity, and easy-drinking red. Perfect for your transition into those summer whites!
"BURGENLAND" Blaufränkisch 2023 | $35
While still showcasing the fresh and blue-fruit-driven nose that I associate with Blaufränkisch, the Burgenland stems from vines aging between 10-50 years and is sourced from Neckenmarkt and Lutzmannsburg. The finish is more structured with a touch of iron and granitic earth, though still looming in the medium-bodied territory.
"RESERVE" Blaufränkisch 2021 | $75
This is for the Cru Burgundy lovers, and possibly my personal favorite from the night. This is a cuvee of his best barrels produced from vines between 27-60 years old on what used to be the Pannonian Sea. This is the type of wine that has the perfect balance between red-cherried fruit, herbs, and violet florality with oolong tea and mushroom undertones. Incredibly limited supply!
"LUTZMANNSBURG" Alte Reben Blaufränkisch 2017 | $140
I never thought I would see so much power and structure from Blaufränkisch. I was blown away by its aging potential, of which this could still easily cellar for another 5-10 years. Lutzmannsburg Alte Reben (old vines averaging 80 years old) is perhaps the most renowned single vineyard site for this varietal and acted more like Grand Cru Burgundy or cool-vintage Hermitage with an earthy nose that opened up into a finessed wine with soft tannins, dark berries, violet and vanilla spice. This was the wine that opened my eyes and got me hooked on Moric wines! 2017 vintage is in limited supply.
